Guerlain’s Fall Collection for 2013 is entitled Voilette De Madame. The Dotty designs of many of the products in the collection are to represent a veil and very pretty the cosmetics are too.
So I’ll start by showing you The Retractable Cream Kohl and Liner. Priced at £18 and available in five shades, I’ve got Katy Navy to show you.
Katy Navy is a shimmering navy pencil. The pencil itself is clever, you can wind it up and down and built into the end is a mini sharpener. The formula is a not unlike a Gel liner in pencil form. It’s really pretty but I’d like to have seen it darker and richer (swatches are at the end of the post).
Next I’ll show you the Gloss D’Enfer Maxi Shine in Madame Batifole.
I love this Maxi Shine Glosses, the finish and texture is beautiful and I’ve previously reviewed a couple of shades. This is no exception and the colour is beautiful. Described as an electric sparkling fuchsia. On me it’s somewhat subtler than the description, but then I don’t like to layer too much lipgloss on.
There are two other shades in this collection, Madame Flirte, a sparkling red, and Madame Fascine, a sparkling deep purple. These are £22 each.
Not only is the gold packaging of this quite a thing of beauty but when you open the compact, the colours (I have Two Spicy), will make you gasp. Alas I found these shadows really disappointing. The Brown shade is rich and applies beautifully but that orange is really disappointing. It is, and is supposed to be, a sheer shimmering wash of colour but I was hoping for vibrant orange sparkle. I got… well I got nothing really. I don’t even have pictures of being worn, once I blended the two shades together on my lid, the brown was washed to nothing and the orange is so sheer all I can really see is the sparkle. There are numerous suggested ways of wearing this, either by just wearing each shade alone, or by applying the matte shade and washing over the top with the sparkle, or using the shimmer as a highlight. In reality I would have preferred the orange shade to be a shimmery shadow with lots of punch that I could sheer out where necessary and build up…but as it stands the shimmer is nearly impossible to build up to anything much. I’ve seen some beautiful looks on other blogs, but I totally failed to achieve them 🙁
All of that said, if a soft look is what you are after then this is lovely. Plus for such a glittery shade I experienced absolutely zero fallout. And that brown… wow that brown is really special…you’ll see in the swatches. There are eight colour ways to choose from and I love the sound of Two Extravagant, Two Candy and, Two Lovely, well all of them!
All are available now on Guerlain counters.
