Essie Resort Collection Summer 2011

I couldn’t resist popping these in my basket recently when shopping for a few bits. I love Essie and all the colours in this mini set really appealed to me as they looked to have a pearl kind of a finish which I really like.

The theme of this little collection would seem to be safari given the terrible pun-tastic names and the colours certainly seem safari-esque.

Actually this collection, whilst I do love all the colours, one in particular, was a bit of a fail for me though. I’ve found the formula really hard to work with, pretty thick, much like applying a hite if you’re familiar with that. Patchy, and the second coat often pulls up the first coat. They take a bit of effort to get on nicely and by the time you’ve evened up the patches your layers are thick and take ages to dry, even with a quick dry top coat. And even with a base and top coat, these all chipped the next day. This isn’t what I’m used to from Essie at all! Disappointing. Anyway, lets have a look.
Da Bush:
Essie Da Bush
Reminds me of the OPI Stranger Tides, although not a dupe, it’s similar. A bit streaky, nice enough but not my favourite colour on me. Nearly lobster hands on me though…
Fair Game:
Essie Fair Game
Nice, reminds me a bit of Chanel’s Black Pearl. It’s a grey, black with hint of green. This was taken less the morning after I put it on, all I’d done was sleep and there are chips on the tips of the middle and index finger.
Lion Around:
Essie Lion Around
A gorgeous colour but an absolute nightmare to apply. Such hard work! I do love the colour but I can’t see me reaching for this just because I can’t be doing with the effort of putting it on.
Your Hut or Mine:
Essie Your Hut or Mine
Oh I love this so much. Its a sort of corally, pinky, red, a bit muted, and its full of orange and fuschia shimmer. I couldn’t capture that amazing shimmer too well, but it’s so gorgeous.  Just like all the others it chipped badly and quickly but I’m going to try some other base and top coats because I really want to wear this. I love it sooooo much!
So all in all disappointing in terms of wear and application for me, but I do really like the colours.

Cripes! It’s been ages since I’ve done a nails of the day post! I recently bought a new one though so popped it on and thought I’d share. It’s Essie’s Coat Azure from the Spring 2011 collection. A very beautiful bright blue with shimmer.

Indoors (and the most accurate representation of the colour)

And outside:

Essie Coat Azure

It’s a very lovely mid blue with very subtle shimmer, not incredibly different to last summer’s (?) Lapis of Luxury, its a bit bluer and the shimmer does set it apart really. One coat was streaky, two was perfection.

Having said all that, I have no idea why I bought it as I really don’t like these shades on me. I love the colour and it looks gorgeous on the nail but I can’t help feeling like this is a colour for teenagers and that it makes me a bit mutton-dressed-as-lamb-ish…

What say you? Can 36 year old mum’s wear these shades or do they look a bit desperate?

Anyway, my insecurities aside, if you like blues, you should probably get this, it’s lovely.

Morning all!

I’ve had this polish for quite a while and not got round to doing a NotD for you until now with it. So I give you Essie Shift Power.

Essie Shift Power

This is a really beautiful gold, the flash unfortunately brings out the worst in polishes I think so I want to show you this rubbish picture.

Essie Shift Power
The reason I’m showing you that is because its a far better representation of how the polish looks, its a beautiful soft, pearly gold which seems to glow. It’s really lovely and nowhere near as brash as the flash makes it look in the first pic. There are brush strokes, but you have to look very closely for them.
Being me I couldn’t just leave them like this and then I spoiled it!
 Essie Shift Power
Blurry black polka dots. Close up you can see how badly I did it.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a nice gold polish then look no further, this is really nice when you don’t plaster stupid black dots on it!

My nails are still horrid, well my cuticles in particular are nasty. I’ve not let that put me off though.

Essie’s Splash of Grenadine is part of the Resort Collection and I’ve had it for quite a while. I’d been putting off wearing it as I thought it was boring. I couldn’t have been more wrong, its stunning! The perfect bright blend of purple & pink and especially lovely on toes!

I love this polish!

My nails are slowly recovering. I think it was my extra strength nail varnish remover destroying them. I’ve gone back to a moisturising polish remover and things are definitely much better. I’ve got tatty cuticles ane one very very stumpy nail but I needed to get some cheery colour on them anyway. Perhaps Essie’s Haute as Hello is a little too cheery. You can’t tell but this is neon. Super uber neon. It’s alo very lovely. It looks nothing like the colour it is in the bottle wguch is flatter, paler, duller… it’d be fabulous for anyone with a tan and less ideal for those of us who could do without attention being drawn to our messy fingers!

Anyway! Pics! This is outside in poor light. Doesn’t look neon does it?

This is inside, under electric light, brighter but not nearly bright enough!

It’s lovely anyway! What say you?

This is a terrible terrible  NotD and I apologise in advance. It’s terrible for a few reasons:

I took a few pics to try and capture the colour but I failed. Its a lovely colour, a pinky grey mauve that is very dusty and muted, or ot would be, except it’s chock full of violet shimmer. You can’t see the shimmer really, it just lifts the cream colour to something different and indescribable. I love it!

I would go so far as to say this is my favourite out of all my recent Essie polishes. What do you think?

EDIT: This post was scheduled before I had to cut off my nails!

Loving these Essie polishes, they are extremely hard wearing, beautiful colours and generally gorgeous.  This one is Lapis of Luxury. It’s a beautiful blue. Truly beautiful.but… it’s not for me. I never like blues on me, and this one is no exception, its beautiful but I don’t like it on me.

If you look closely you’ll see a bit of tip wear because I forgot to take pics on the first day, this is day 3. Two coats.

What do you think of this one?

03. 07. 2010

This time round I picked Essie’s Pretty Edgy from the Summer 2010 collection. It’s funny, I could have sworn I didn’t like Greens on me. I like pale yellow toned greens but I’ve avoided true greens for a long long time, I mean, you’ve never seen one on my blog have you? Anyway, I put this one on fully prepared to remove it immediately but actually I love it! It’s a creme finish, not a hint of shimmer and it’s a fab colour. Btw, the wear on the Playa Del Platinum was excellent so hopefully this one will be really good too!
In bright sunlight:

And in the shade:

It’s really very nice indeed. I can’t believe I’ve been avoiding shades like this for so long. What do you think, would you wear a green like this?

Sooo! The first of my Essie haul! This is Playa Del Platinum from the Essie Resort Collection. I picked it to try first because I thought it was the most boring and it is, but it’s very nice. It’s a Greige which to my eyes leans more towards grey in the bottle but is a true beige on the nail.

This is three coats and it’s still streaky in places, horrible application, but overall I think it looks very nice.
