I should think most people are aware of the Estee Lauder Double Wear line of comsetics, with the foundation probably being the most famous of the line. Which reminds me, I really must get around to to trying the Double Wear Light Foundation. Anyway I digress, what I was going to say was that although I am sure many are aware of the Double Wear foundation but there are many more products in the Double Wear line, including the Double Wear Zero-Smudge Liquid Liners. These come in four colours, Brown, Black, Graphite (Grey) and Bronze.
The applicator is an ultra fine felt pen style tip. It’s incredibly easy to use and be accurate with, and I find it easy to start out very fine line thickening out towards the outer edge of the lid. I still can’t wing my liner, but thats me, I just can’t do it all. Whatever the brand. The colours are great, the black is opaque and very black, the brown is…brown…, the Bronze and Graphite though are really special indeed though. The grey is my favourite closely followed by the Bronze.
L-R – Black, Graphite, Bronze and Brown
Now these profess to last 15 hours. I would love to tell you that these last even longer than that…but I’d have to admit something a bit skanky so um… yes, 15 hours is no problem at all. In fact trying to remove them at all is hard work, especially if you find you’re without an oil based cleanser…
Super long wearing, beautiful shades, easy to use, a very highly recommended product. The price is £17.50 which isn’t cheap I know but for me this is the absolute holy grail of liquid eyeliners so definitely worth it. I’m using Graphite for my sister’s eyeliner on her wedding day so am absolutely sure there will be no running, smudging or fading.
Another winning product from Estee Lauder, the brand that in my eyes seems to do no wrong! I’ll have to buy something I know I dislike soon to prove I don’t just pretend I love everything!
*Disclosure – PR Sample *
So the weekend has been & gone along with a visit from my sister Lis or Aunty Boo as she’s known to my kids! She wasn’t here for long and I predicted some pretty intense make up application and removal as we tried different combinations but actually that wasn’t the case. I knew what I thought would look good and thankfully Lis agreed so we ended up only running through twice with a few adjustments the second time but I was really pleased with it and I think Lis was too. So without further ado I give you a whole load of photos!
I should mention that it was a concious decision to stay away from the usual neutral eye make up for two reasons, my sister’s colouring for one but the main reason being her wedding dress is pale blue so I felt that greys and silvers would be a better match.
The Afters. This was the first run through and we decided to tweak a couple of things the second time round. The flash washed things out a little in these first pics and bought out too much of the shimmer but you get the idea!
So day two, I decided to switch out the MAC MSF (although we both loved it) and try Nars Orgasm instead, for a less disco effect. We also addeda touch of highlighter on the cheekbones and a smidge of contouring. We also added lipliner under the lipstick for longer wear and a hint more colour. The following pics are in daylight so I hope you can see that although the eyes are shiny, they aren’t as shiny as the flash pics made them appear.
So there we have it. The finished look. What do you think? I’m really pleased considering a) how nervous I was about it and b) my total lack of skill.
The products I used for this look are as follows:
So there we have it. Typing that list up reminds me, anyone got Silver Fog or Sweet Sienna Pigments for sale?
I must also do a special thank you to both Clinique and Estee Lauder who provided several of the products used and several products that weren’t used. I am eternally grateful and it was a great great help. Thank you.
I expect by now you’ve all seen this new Mac Collection. It’s huge. I wanted lots of bits from it but common sense took hold and I scaled my list down considerably to just four items. I also changed my mind right at the last minute about which quad I was going to get… it was going to be the purple (Burmese Beauty if I recall correctly) but at the last minute I decided upon the Leopard Lux one and I’m so glad I did!
Here’s what I got:
So theres the Desires & Devices Liquid Liner, The Leopard Lux quad (yes you do spy a taupe there), the Wildly Refined Lipglass and Aristo-Cat Lipstick.
And here’s two swatch photos because I couldn’t decide which was the best….
I would especially recommend enlarging the last picture. I think its obvious which swatch is which but the top row is the liner and quad, underneath is the lipglass and under that the lipstick.
The liner is olive green with lots of gold and dark sparkle, the quad features a camel, an orangey gold, a taupe with gold shimmer (although it’s really hard to spot) and dark grey. It’s really fabulous. Anyway, as soon as they arrived I had to put the eyeshadow and liner to use 🙂 As usual, I’m not very good at doing eye make up so don’t expect a fabulous demonstration of the products, this isn’t the blog to read if you want tutorials or fabulous examples of artistry 😉
The Leopard Lux quad is really lovely. It’s a bit different from the usual neutrals, I love the yellowy shades, the camel and the gold, which make a change from creams and beige.
So have you bought anything from this collection or is it just too meh for you?
I know I’ve talked about my love for Guerlain’s Loose Powder Kohl’s before. I’m not sure how many I had at the time I last posted but I know for a fact my collection has expanded a wee bit. I think it’s fair to say that these applied “eastern style” (on both the upper and lower waterline) are perhaps my most beloved make up item. I don’t wear them every single day, but certainly several times a week and quite often I find myself thinking my look isn’t “complete” until I’ve whipped some on.
So thats the five I have. Left to right is Noir, Bleu, Oriental Metal, Secret Glow and Lagon. Words cannot express how displeasing I find it that the Secret Glow container isn’t transparent like the other pots. I don’t like it when things don’t match. Anyway, here’s some swatches in the same order, Noir, Bleu, Oriental Metal, Secret Glow and Lagon.
My favourites of them all are Noir which looks fabulous on and Oriental Metal which was a Ltd Edition but if you google you might find a few about.
I’ve raved about these in the past I know but they simply can’t be beaten for longevity. I can put this stuff on in the morning, wash my face at bedtime and look in the mirror and it’s still there! Now that’s fantastic you have to admit!
Applying the two dark colours can get a little messy so I always have a cotton bud to hand or even the Lord & Berry Eraser Pencil on hand to clean up fall out, but it’s so worth it. I’ll try and get some pictures of all of them on the eye over the next week or so and get those up too.
Next I need the long discontinued Pourpre and Oriental Bronze.
If you haven’t tried these yet then you must. At £20 a pop they are not cheap but my top tip is check ebay! I picked up the pale blue lagon on Ebay from a seller who clearly had no idea what it was and described it as a pretty blue eyeshadow in a fancy pot! It was less than a tenner new. 😉
I’m sorry about this post. It’s a very dull FotD but I did something with it that I’ve never ever done before so it was worth blogging about from my perspective. I have never ever fully lined my eyes before. Usually I do along the top 3/4 of the way although sometimes all the way, and the bottom line is never ever lined all the way into the inner corner, only ever 3/4’s of the way, never to the inner corner. I don’t know why I’ve always done this, I just felt it never looked right it if I went all the way round, or that it was just too full on. Also, when I’ve tried in the past it was with black which is definitely full on! Today, I don’t know what posessed me but I was using my favourite pencil of the moment (Clinique Quickliner Intense Plum) and just carried on going. I then used the smudger on the end to smudge it all out and hey presto we’re done.
It does feel pretty full on to be honest, and it looks more full on than the pictures would have you believe but actually, I quite like it. I’ll put a bit more care and attention into it next time!
So, my question to you is, how do you line your eyes? All the way round? Was it just me being a freak doing it only 3/4 of the way or is that normal?
PS: although the pictures fail to demonstrate it well, this pencil is beautiful, and absolutely budgeproof. Review Here
I can’t be the only person who has never heard of Lord & Berry Cosmetics? I was intrigued to receive a sample of their products. An Italian brand whose niche appear to be the Black Wardrobe. More on that Later.
Thats the Black Wardrobe Ultimate Touch Eraser Pencil, the Smudgeproof Waterproof Eyeliner in Black, the Vogue Matte Velvet Lipstick in China Red and a Stardust Pure Pearl Loose Powder eyeshadow in Gold Black. I’ll show you some swatches and then talk about the products in more detail.
There is no swatch of the eraser pencil as it is transparent.
The Eraser Pencil is something of a marvel actually. I’m always winging out my eyeliner a touch too far or making some ridiculous mistake, this just cleans things up a little. It doesn’t work well on waterproof products, but if you dab it on the bit you want to remove then this acts like an oil which you can then swipe with a cotton bud. Honestly, if you’re cack handed like me this is a great product!
Next up the Vogue Matte Velvet Lipstick. This is beautiful! It’s a matte lipstick, but it’s not drying at all, the colour is stunning, although I wish I had a different shade so I could get more wear out it. Mandarino (an orange shade) looks fab. This lipstick claims to plump and counteract the signs of aging. Well I don’t notice much in the way of plumping, but my pout certainly looked fairly luscious. A very nice lipstick indeed.
Onto the Stardust Pure Pearl Loose Eyeshadow in Gold Black. There’s a shimmer there, but its very very subtle and actually this product is really rather lovely. It is buildable and is perfect for a smokey eye, rock chick style. If I had more skill I’d show you. I might do at a later date, it’s the kind of product where messy isn’t too much of an issue, it’s part of the effect. Very nice.
Finally the Smudgeproof waterproof liner. This is a soft pencil, goes on very smoothly and it really doesn’t smudge. If smudgeproof is what you are after then this is does the trick perfectly. As such, I’m struggling to use it to be honest. It’s been many years since I’ve worn unblended black lines on my eyes, but for many people this would be a fantastic product.
What is really special about this brand is their Black Wardrobe range. Whilst the liner I was sent wasn’t ideal for my needs, the Black Wardrobe is a collection of black products, most of which are eyeliners, all of which serve a different purpose or have a different finish. There are liquid liners, smudgeable liners, glittery liners, you name it, they have it.
The range is extremely reasonably priced with the liners priced at £5.95 and the lipstick at £9.95 which I think is the most expensive item they do.
I highly recommend this range, especially if black is your thing, although they do colours too!

“Bigger Brighter Eyes in an Instant”
This is the title of the Clinique Fall Collection and very nice it sounds too! The promotional pic up there isn’t very inspiring is it? Don’t be put off though, I have a few bits and they are very lovely.
The collection is released on the 1st of August and is quite large, including cream shadows, liners, mascaras and lip products. I won’t discuss them all because this post would go on forever, instead I’ll talk about the lovely bits I have!
So there are two Ltd Edition Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Intense Plum and Intense Chocolate (£13), two Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Colours in Pear-fection and Running Latte (£13.50) and the Limited Edition High Impact Mascara in Brightening Black (14.50).
Here’s swatches of all but the mascara:
L-R: Quickliner Intense Intense Plum, Quickliner Intense Intense Chocolate, Lip Smoothie Running Latte and Pear-fection Lip Smoothie.
I want to suggest you click and enlarge that swatch picture because Intense Plum Quickliner is really stunning. It’s almost black, with vibrant purple hints… as a dark line it’s special, but blended out with the smudger it’s really lovely too. The Quickliner in Intense Chocolate has an almost metallic effect too. These are really fab, and whats more, they last all day too without smudging. Very impressive.
The lip smoothies are lovely, Running Latte, is a natural nudey colour, and by which I don’t mean a pale nude, I mean a “my lips but better” shade, lovely. Pear-fection is beautiful. Really really beautiful. Probably it’s a frost or a shimmer by definition, but I just love it, and normally I wouldn’t touch a frost. The consistency of these is lovely but a word of caution, you only need a little, they are easy to overdo and you end up with thick layers of sticky gloss, one or two little swipes are all you need for a none sticky glossy finish. Very pretty.
Here’s Pear-fection on my lips:
Pic doesn’t do it justice. It’s SO pretty.
I’ve saved the best til last though. I’m in love with a mascara. The new Limited Edition High Impact Mascara in Brightening Black. The name is a misnomer… take the wand out to the daylight to look and it’s actually blue. Navy blue. You can’t really tell when it’s on your lashes, unless out in the sunshine, it otherwise looks black. I’m not sure whether it brightens my eyes or not but this is mascara love. I’m going to have to buy back ups of this one. I can’t bear to think what I’ll do when it runs out and I can’t get more. Anyway, I took lots of pics and have managed to narrow it down to the following:
It’s thickening, adds length, defines lashes, no clumping, absolutely a holy grail product for me and I totally love the fact that it’s not quite black. Absolute winner of a product.
To summarise, not the most exciting range to look at but actually there are some fabulous products, I like all the bits I was sent but I love the Intense Plum liner and am besotted with the mascara. Fab!
I’ve seen these posts or similar posts on lots of people’s blogs since I’ve been blogging but I’ve not yet managed to get round to doing mine yet.
The following are some of my favourite, most used, but basic, products. So I hope you enjoy seeing them.
Ok so here we go:
So there you have it! My top basic items. Do you have any of these or want any of these? I might do another one of these about my favourites that aren’t basics as I have some idtems I love so much I just want to blog about them!
In case you live in a bubble and have sadly missed my many updates, it is my birthday tomorrow.
As a special treat my sister came down for the day and took me out for lunch and for shopping. It’s the first time I’ve ever left Lola for any length of time, and I didn’t know myself. Really! Anyway, we had a lovely lunch sat outdoors on the Cathedral Green at Michael Caine’s Brasserie and it was lovely and then we went off in search for a pressie. I showed her (amongst many other things) a Chanel quad I was in love with, which sadly was out of stock (Garden Party if you’re interested), I really need it, it’s stunning. Instead we left with my second choice of the Murano quad. It’s very lovely, a dark grey/black, a teal, a light light grey/turquoise and a pink. It’s very lovely. If anyone finds Garden Party though I’d love it, none of my local stores had it and I can’t find it online either. Anyway, aside from that, I got another Guerlain Kohl in the post this morning. The discontinued Secret Glow. It’s a beautiful pearly cream gold and really shows up beautifully on my waterline. All in all a very satisfactory day!
Pics & Swatches!
The kohl swatch is on the very left.
Happy Days. Hope you are all having a nice time in this fab weather!
Nothing exciting but unusually for me I think kind of polished. Normally, no matter how hard I try I never look as polished as I’d like and today is no exception… but it’s better…
