I was excited to see bareMinerals launch a line of matte liquid lipsticks, not only do I really love a matte finish and a liquid lipstick but with such a good range of colours (10), I was optimistic I would find a nude that would suit me.  I searched for swatches online and decided upon Swag.

The Gen Nude collection is quite large and also includes Gen Nude Buttercream Lipglosses as well as Gen Nude Under Over Lip Liners, but I actually opted for a bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipliner in the shade “Thrilled”. I suspect, but don’t quote me on it, that these are being discontinued, but they are currently still available on lots of sites. I opted for this as I was able to find decent swatches whereas with the new Gen Nude lip liners, I couldn’t be sure what I was buying would match my Matte Liquid Lipcolour.

When I compared the liner and Lipcolour in swatches, they didn’t seem like a good enough match but actually on my lips they work perfectly together, and the Thrilled lip liner actually works with quite a lot of my existing products. Otherwise though, I don’t find it remarkable, in fact it feels a little draggy when I apply it, but it does do the job and I’m using it almost daily. The twist up mechanism is good, but I do feel like I am flying through the product and maybe a pencil would have been better value for money in the long run.

Swag is the most perfect lipstick I’ve ever owned. Honestly I’m not exaggerating! Firstly, I adore the colour, it is my perfect everyday shade and the formula is amazing. It goes on smoothly and feels creamy on application, but it dries quickly and it does so without sucking the moisture out of my lips. This is important because I can be a bit prone to dry lips in the first place, but this doesn’t make it worse in anyway, once it’s dried I cannot feel it on my lips at all. I also find the wear time on this is amazing, if I apply at 8am it will still be visible at tea time, with the only exception to this being if I’ve eaten something greasy. Otherwise, while it does fade, it fades evenly and very slowly. I will definitely need more of these in my life.

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid LipstickI bought both of these products from Escentual, with my own money, because at the time of purchasing, and at the time of writing, the products are on offer. The Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolors are £14.45 (RRP £17) and the Marvelous Moxie Lip Liner is £11.05 (RRP £13).

Good morning!

Today I’ve got some beautiful products and two very different looks from Aveda to show you today. This is my first foray into Aveda cosmetics and I want more! There are a few bits in the collection that I didn’t get so Might just get myself those, since I’m so impressed.

The first thing I want to tell you about is the packaging. It’s all recyclable, it’s functional rather than needlessly pretty and in terms of eyeshadows, you just buy the pans, and are encouraged to buy palettes to store them in rather than lots of plastic cases.

Aveda Art of Nature Make Up Collection

Don’t get me wrong, the packaging is lovely, but it’s basic and that really encourages you to concentrate on the products within.

Aveda Art of Nature Make Up Collection

The items I received to try out are as follows:

Petal Essence Single Eye Color Refills in Bare Bellis, Cinnamon Bark, Oceanica and Papyrus (£11.50 each)
Nourish-mint Sheer Mineral Lip Color in Melochia Bloom (£12)
Nourish-mint Smoothing Lip Color in Cana (£12)
Nourish-mint Lip Liner in Barbarry Bloom (£14)
Petal-essence Eye Definer in Jade Bloom (£13.50)
Nourish-mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Kukui (£15.50)

On looking at these pictures I’ve realised I’ve not taken any photos of the Lip Glaze in any pictures, although I have got a hand swatch so I’ll do a separate post on that.

Okay, so before I show you the looks, here’s the hand swatches of the stunning colours.

Aveda Art of Nature Make Up Collection

My favourite things are the two pencils, the eye and lip pencil, they are so packed full of colour and they stay put all day long, just great products… and that red lipstick, well it’s mind blowingly bright on… a little out of my comfort zone, but just amazing.

Anyway, here’s the first look, brace yourselves!!

For this look I used Cana Lipstick with Barbary Bloom Lip Liner, and on the eyes Jade Vine Eye Definer with Papyrus and Oceanica shadow. The lipstick is just insane, so so bright, but absolutely stunning and really I don’t have a bad word to say about any of these products.

But if brights aren’t your cup of tea, fear not, Aveda’s Summer collection has subdued tones too. Here’s my second look.

For this look I used Cinnamon Bark and Bare Bellis eyeshadows,  with the much softer Melochia Bloom Lip colour. Again, lovely products that blend flawlessly to create a lovely soft look.

There are a few other items in the collection, but mostly I just wan the Petal Essence Face Accent powder in Hibiscus which is gorgeous and a palette to put them all in!

Anything take your fancy and would you go bright or natural, or maybe mix it up a bit?

All items are available now from www.aveda.co.uk and I’m seriously impressed.

I’m absolutely delighted to be able to share this collection with you. The Clinique Strawberry Fudge Colour Collection for Christmas is a small but perfectly formed  with glorious colours! This collection is available from the 12th November

The collection includes the stunning Strawberry Fudge Holiday compact. This is stunning. Retailing at £25 it contains a trio of the Colour Surge eyeshadows in soft pink, choclate brown and a slate shade. There’s also a beautiful pink blusher in “New Clover”. Apologies for the reflection of my double chin in the compact. oops.

Also included is a Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Colour in Strawberry Bliss. Lots of scrummy ingredients to help improve your lips at £13.50.
clinique plush pink

There’s a Defining Liner for Lips in Plush Pink which retails at £12.50. It’s a great colour and has a built in sharpener in the lid.

Finally there’s a High Lengths Mascara included in the collection which I don’t have but that promises to take your eyelashes to new lengths. £14.50.

Swatches!

And a close look at the eyes and lips:

So my thoughts on the items that I have received. The Colour compact is absolutely beautiful. The colours are gorgeous, really gorgeous and I’m absolutely head over heels with the blusher. The Lip liner is fantastic and will see lots of use from me and I adore the colour of the Lip Smoothie however, I’ve decided I don’t like the feel of the smoothies on my lips. they feel heavy on my lips… I’d prefer a lighter formula.

Overall though, I love this little collection and the colours are right up my street. I can see the compact and liner being my absolute staples in the months to come and although I will reach for the Lip Smoothie as I love the colour, I can’t see me using it quite so often as I’m just not a fan of the formula sadly.

The compact is a must have if you ask me!

So the weekend has been & gone along with a visit from my sister Lis or Aunty Boo as she’s known to my kids! She wasn’t here for long and I predicted some pretty intense make up application and removal as we tried different combinations but actually that wasn’t the case. I knew what I thought would look good and thankfully Lis agreed so we ended up only running through twice with a few adjustments the second time but I was really pleased with it and I think Lis was too. So without further ado I give you a whole load of photos!

I should mention that it was a concious decision to stay away from the usual neutral eye make up for two reasons, my sister’s colouring for one but the main reason being her wedding dress is pale blue so I felt that greys and silvers would be a better match.

The Before:

Wedding Make Up Practice

The Afters. This was the first run through and we decided to tweak a couple of things the second time round. The flash washed things out a little in these first pics and bought out too much of the shimmer but you get the idea!

So day two, I decided to switch out the MAC MSF (although we both loved it) and try Nars Orgasm instead, for a less disco effect. We also addeda touch of highlighter on the cheekbones and a smidge of contouring. We also added lipliner under the lipstick for longer wear and a hint more colour. The following pics are in daylight so I hope you can see that although the eyes are shiny, they aren’t as shiny as the flash pics made them appear.

So there we have it. The finished look. What do you think? I’m really pleased considering a) how nervous I was about it and b) my total lack of skill.

The products I used for this look are as follows:

Wedding Make Up Practice
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Pebble
Estee Lauder Lucidity Translucent Powder in Medium
Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light Medium
Elf Eyebrow Kit in Light
Clinique Pore Minimiser Primer in 01
Benefit 10 Powder (just the bronzer side)
Nars Orgasm Blush
Mac Soft & Gentle MSF
Estee Lauder Double Wear Lip Liner in Tawny
Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick in Pink-a-Boo
Clinique Lash Power Mascara in Black
Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Liner in Graphite
Mac Subculture Lip Liner
Mac Soft Ochre Paint Pot
Bourjois Gris Pailettes Eyeshadow
Mac Silver Fog Pigment
Mac Sweet Sienna Pigment
Mac Fix+

So there we have it. Typing that list up reminds me, anyone got Silver Fog or Sweet Sienna Pigments for sale?

I must also do a special thank you to both Clinique and Estee Lauder who provided several of the products used and several products that weren’t used. I am eternally grateful and it was a great great help. Thank you.

I love red lipstick. Very much. However, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, as a stay at home mum with no social life I very very rarely wear it…so I’m not sure why I have accumulated quite so many. It’s a little excessive I have to admit!

My Red Lipstick Collection

Here are swatches in the same order:

My Red Lipstick Collection

So we have Left to Right: Marks & Spencer Poppy, Revlon True Red, Estee Lauder Pure Colour Gloss Stick Cherry Ice, Lord & Berry Vogue Semi-Matte China Red, Mac Viva Glam Cyndi, Mac Cockney, Mac Hot Tahiti, Clinique High Impact Red-y To Wear, All For Eve Eve Red.

So I have to admit, a couple of them aren’t true reds, Mac Cyndi and Hot Tahiti for example but they are great examples of every day reds, and the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Gloss Stick in Cherry Ice is really red but as it’s a glossy finish, it has a much softer finish and is quite wearable on an average kind of a day.

The M&S Poppy lipstick is my oldest and I bought it a long long time ago for a fancy dress party when I was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood!

My Red Lipstick Collection

Thats a wig by the way!

So anyway, my favourite reds are in no particular order, the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Gloss stick in Cherry Ice:

Mac Cockney:

And lastly the beautiful Clinique Red-y to Wear:

So there we have it! A quick look at my reds collection with a closer look at my favourites!

Are there any reds you think I really need to add to my collection of never-worn red lipsticks? I clearly need more in my life 😉
