Just Charlie G
L'Occitane Magnolia & Mure Eau de Toilette

Recently L’Occitane introduced the new La Collection de Grasse, a fine fragrance collection uniting ingredients from far and wide, in some unexpected ways.

I was sent Magnolia & Mure to try out. Magnolia, now I know what that is, it hails from the Far East and it’s essential oils are used in this fragrance. Mure, well I had to do a bit of research to find out what that is, (there should be an accent over the u but I’ve never worked out how to do them!) but I believe it’s the french word for Blackberry. Which explains why it reminds me a little of Jo Malone’s Blackberry & Bay!

Whereas in Blackberry and Bay, the blackberry is very blackberry ish but there’s also the bay at work, this is also very much like Blackberry, but sweeter and instead of the bay scent, we have the magnolia.

It’s really really beautiful, it’s so light and fruity, but not in a sickly sweet way like strawberries, like the distinctive scent of blackberry which it turns out I absolutely love in a perfume. You all know by now I’m rubbish at reviewing perfumes, the only thing I can add to this review is that it’s not overpowering, the scent lasts for hours and hours but doesn’t smell strong and if you like fruity, and blackberry in particular, you will love this. The other scents in this collection are Jasmin & Bergamote, The Vert & Bigarade and Vanille & Narcisse (which I also really like the sound of) and all the scents are also available in bars of soap, shower gels and body milks.

Magnolia & Mure is really beautiful and well worth checking out next time you’re passing a store but if you fancy buying it yourself then you can purchase it from the L’occitane site where it retails at £49.

Spring is here!!! Well, kind of. Spring is officially due later this month but it doesn’t much look that way right now does it!

If you fancy letting a bit of Spring into your dark winter days then look no further than the new L’Occitane Spring collection, Spring Cherry.

The range consists of a shower gel, Eau de Toilette, Moisturising Gel, Soap and Soft Hand Cream all in a delicious fruity/floral scent. Spring Cherry is the scent of cherry blossom just about to become cherries and it smells gorgeous.

It’s light, fruity and floral, but somewhere in the middle of both of those. To me it doesn’t fall into the fruit bracket, nor the floral bracket, but somewhere squarely in the middle. I get citrus fruits, a hint of berry and then the cherry blossom.

I’ve been using the Iridescent Shower Gel (£13 for 250ml).

L'Occitane Spring Cherry Iridescent Shower Gel

You can’t see in this picture but there’s the softest iridescence throughout the bottle, this doesn’t translate to the skin as far as I can tell, but it’s a very pretty thing anyway!

L'Occitane Spring Cherry Iridescent Shower Gel

Treat yourself to somethign from this range, it’s sunshine in a bottle and a lovely moisturising gel, with lots and lots of lather for very little product. Perfect.

You can find the entire range on the L’Occitane website now.

If you’ve got a couple of beauty lovers left to buy for, I might have just the things for you. I was going to do two separate posts for these but since we’re now getting so close to Christmas I thought I’d better hurry things along and do them both in the one post.

Firstly we have this amazing brush kit. The Dream Team from bareMinerals. £39

The Dream Team from bareMinerals

Before I go on too much about this I should tell you I can’t find this in stock anywhere online but I think it’s well worth checking a bareMinerals counter near you as this is a brush kit well worth having.

The Dream Team from bareMinerals

The Dream Team from bareMinerals
I took mine away with me to a Christmas party and overnight stay at the week and the brushes were fabulous. Actually, despite not using much in the way of bareMinerals make up, I have quite a few brushes in my collection, all of which I use a lot, they are great quality. This kit contains two eye shadow brushes, a face or foundation brush, a blusher brush and an eye shadow brush, all perform exceptionally well. If you can find it, grab it (for yourself!).

The second gift I want to show you is The Best of  L’Occitane Collection.

The Best of L'Occitane Collection

The Best of L'Occitane Collection
Not only is this beautiful to look at but it’s full of beautiful products. And not just that it’s currently got a whopping £33 pounds off taking it from a hefty £93 to a much more affordable £60. It contains 250ml Almond Shower Oil, 250ml Cherry Blossom Shower Gel, 100ml Almond Milk Concentrate, 100ml Lavender Foaming Bath, 75ml Shea Butter Hand Cream, 30ml Shea Butter Foot Cream and 20ml Verbena Eau de Toilette. The contents are worth £84.50 so this is currently a great deal. You are essentially getting a couple of products free. Brilliant. You can get it here and you don’t even have to gift wrap it!

L’Occitane are really on a roll at the the moment. There seems to be new products coming out very often which is great news if you’re a L’Occitane fan, bad news for the purse strings.

First thing I wanted to tell you about is L’Occitane’s first cologne collection. Unsurprisingly inspired by the region of Provence, there are three to choose from all in gorgeous retro packaging.

I’ve been trying out Eau Ravissante, which is the floral Cologne for women. Flower petals and citrus, it’s clean and its fresh and its perfect for Summer days (looks out of window), okay, it’s perfect for any time, but especially Summer days! I find the scent doesn’t last for hours and hours on me, but this is a Cologne, not an Eau de Parfum, it’s designed to be splashed on liberally. I have the handbag sized 50ml bottle (£21) but the large bottle is 300ml (£37) and thats HUGE so you can really splash it on as often as you like.  There are also coordinating shower gels  (£13) so you can layer if you wish.  The other two fragrances in the range are the Unisex Cologne, Eau Universelle, which is bergamot and grapefruit and the gorgeous sounding men’s Cologne, Eau Captivante which is bergamot and lime. All available now!

The second thing I wanted to tell you about is the Anglica range. Again the range is designed for hydration during the Summer months and includes three products. There’s an Instant Hydration Mask (£19) which is gel consistency and works in 3 minutes, put it on, brush your teeth and wash it off, plumped radiant skin! Sounds great, then there’s an Exfoliating Gel (£17) which does what it sounds like it does, gently buffs to reveal fresh revitalised skin. Finally there’s the Hydration Face Mist (£15).

Obviously it’s not been hot enough the last few weeks for me to really put this through it’s paces, but I’ve been using it as the final step in my make up routine, as a kind of setting spray. It seems to add a touch of glow and it certainly feels refreshing, if I was off somewhere really hot holiday I’d definitely want this baby with me.

Oh that’s not all there is though, there’s the Almond range too. This is a range for the body to help you firm up and get lush smooth skin. Again, there are three products in the line. A Shower Scrub (£13) to prepare the skin, ideally after that you’d then use the main product, Almond Shaping Delight (£34) a gel-cream to firm, resculpt (thanks to flavonoids to drain excess fluids and a plant complex to break down fatty deposits) and tighten thanks to the “mesh effect” of almond proteins on the surface of the skin. Finally there’s Beautiful Shape (£28).

I had to include a pictures of the external packaging here because I love it.  Beautiful Shape is a gel-cream specifically to help tackle cellulite on the thighs and bum. LOVE this. I was expecting it have an almond scent but its got a minty sort of effect so when you apply it you can feel it cooling and lightly tingling. Feels great! I’ve not been using this for the full 28 days yet but it promises results within that time period and I can confirm my skin is incredibly soft. I’m optimistic.

So there we have it, a bit of a lengthy post I know but there’s a lot happening at L’Occitane at the moment! Everything you could want for Summer.

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

That packaging! How pretty, I’m such a magpie for pale pinks with greens…. I think back in the 80’s I had a white, pink and green bedroom… it was one of the first colour combinations I fell in love with and I still feel the same now.

Last year L’Occitane released Pivoine Flora EDP and there is now a new limited edition perfume in the range. Pivoine Delicate. This new collection is inspired by a rare peony flower that is very delicate. The collection includes not only an Eau De Toilette but cosmetics and body products.

I’ve got a few things to share with you today from the collection and I’ll be honest, I love them but at first I wasn’t at all sure I would. I have it in my head for some reason that I don’t like floral fragrances, despite the fact that over the last couple of years I have discovered that’s not strictly true but still I have this misconception about my tastes. So it’s fair to say that with this collection, it was the packaging and cosmetic items that really drew me in.

So lets start with the Eau de Toilette (£33 75ml)

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

Loving this! It’s so light and whilst it is floral, its fruity too. Only subtle fruit though. Officially this has top notes of citrus fruits and white peach, heart notes of rose, peony and lilly of the valley and base notes of white musk and light woods. I’d go along with that entirely, just to add that it lasts a long time on me but is light and fresh. It’s really gorgeous!

The next Item I was sent is the Hand Cream (£13 75ml).

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

L’Occitane Hand Cream has become my go to for moisturising my hands, and so it’s lovely to have this to use with the perfume. Love the formula, always beautifully scented, quickly absorbed and very moisturising. There’s nothing more to say, if you’re looking for a great hand cream this is well worth a look.

The final product I have to show you is the Lipstick in Pivoine Delicate (£12.50 for 3.5g)

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

A delicate soft, lightly shimmering nude. I LOVE this. It’s an absolute beaut of a lippie. I don’t have much to actually say about it, just have a look at it.

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

L'Occitane Pivoine Delicate

Other items in the range are the Fresh Mist (a scented spray with aloe vera to leave you soft!), A Shimmer Poweder which is pink and silver iridescence to add to your body/hair, a Eau de Toilette and Gloss Duo (perfume at one end and lip gloss at the other, three lip glosses and two more lipsticks.

On my wish list is the Fresh Mist and the Shimmering Powder (not that I have any call for such a thing, I don’t care, just give me the pretty) and one of the lippies looks like a stunning coral, although I believe they are all on the sheer side… fine by me if they are all as pretty as Pivoine Delicate.

All in all this is a beautiful collection. Really beautiful and I’m wanting to treat myself to a few more bits which is a always a good sign!

L'Occitane Shea Butter Dessert Rose Hand Cream

How gorgeous is that packaging and the leaflet behind it? The packaging design is inspired by Bogolan cloth, a traditional West African Fabric. The L’Occitane Shea Butter range has had a make over and all the products are decorated in the with Bogolan type designs. These limited edition products are also inspired with scents from all over Africa and the hand cream is the Desert Rose from Morocco. Also in the range is an Ultra Rich Body  and Lip Balm, all are available in three scents, Desert Rose, Hibiscus Flower and Cocoa Flower.

Desert Rose is a beautiful scent, it’s definitely rose-y but also a bit zingy and fresh too. It’s beautiful.

L’Occitane Shea Butter is Fair Trade is purchased in a partnership with the women who make the Shea Butter in Burkina Faso.

It’s a worthy product, it’s beautifully scented and it really keeps my hands beautifully soft.  Gorgeous stuff. The hand cream comes in two sizes 30ml and 150ml  which are £7.50 and £17.50 respectively.

New to the L’Occitane range this month is the Lavande De Haute-Provence range. A gorgeous range with Lavender Essential Oil from Haute-Provence.

I’ve been a huge fan of Lavender for years when I learned of it’s sleep inducing and headache curing qualities so I was especially pleased to hear about this range. Well known for it’s relaxing qualities the essential oil used in the range is Lavandula Anguifolia, also known as True Lavender or Fine Lavender.

There are some beautiful sounding products in the range including a Foaming Bath, Eau de Cologne (citrus, lavender and a woody musky base – sounds gorgeous!), a roll on oil for your pulse points, hand gel, hand cream, shower gel and body lotion and more.

I was sent a couple of items to try out. The 10ml bottle of essential oil (£12) and the  Body and Massage Gel 200ml (£20)

L'Occitane En Provence

Both items, to me, are wonderful. I’ve been using them daily. The essential oil is recommend that you either mix a couple of drops in a neutral bath oil and add to your bath, or add a few drops to an oil burner. I don’t like baths much and I dont’ have an oil burner so what I’ve been doing is adding a couple of drops to my pillow. Now you’re not suppose to get this on your skin so it’s worth noting that I don’t actually sleep on my pillow, I rest on it to read my book and then sleep face down flat on my bed, so there’s no risk of it coming into contact with my skin (although I must say I’m not sure I understand this advice as Lavender Oil is one of the few essential oils that can be used directly on the skin and is great for preventing scarring).  Anyway, once I’ve added my drops to my pillow I then grab a blob of the massage gel and rub it into my chest and upper arms. As far as massage goes, this manages to be both quickly absorbed, but not too quick for massage purposes… very nice and I’m in Lavender heaven! I find sleep comes pretty easily.

Obviously this isn’t a range for lavender haters, but for anyone who likes lavender it’s fabulous and well worth checking out!

Dislcosure: PR Samples

I was recently sent a lovely candle to try out. It’s the very lovely Fig Tree Leaf candle from L’Occitane. With a 20 hour burn time and at £12.50 each it’s a lovely gift, either for yourself for Christmas or for a stocking filler for someone else. The winter candle selection includes the aforementioned Fig Tree Leaf, Candied Fruit, Winter Forest and Spicy Cinnamon.

Fig Tree Leaf smells beautiful, theres a big hit of coconut in there actually, along with a lovely sweet scent. Having said all that, it doesn’t seem to kick out a lot of scent whilst burning. I had it going for a couple of hours the other night and I couldn’t detect a huge amount of scent which was disappointing, not even when I left the room and came back in. I could smell it for sure but it wasn’t as powerful as I had hoped. I don’t mind really, candles are lovely to have anyway, especially when in such nice tins.

Speaking of L’Occitane, they have some nice gifts out for Christmas and in particular I’m particularly liking the look of the Shower Gel Quatro Collection from the Petit Provençal Gifts collection which includes Cherry Blossom Shower Gel, Peony Shower Gel, Fleur Cherie Bath & Shower Gel and Rose 4 Reins Shower Gel for £20 (all 75ml bottles).

Take a look at the Gifts section of the L’Occitane site for some great gift ideas.
