Mother’s Day is looming here in the UK and while I think about my lovely Mum lots, and my Mother in Law, I also think of myself. It’s not because I’m selfish, but rather that I’m required to put together a list for my husband of things I might like from the kids. I had some info through the other day from Institut Esthederm and I’ve got to say, a pamper package of their products sounds right up my street right now. Life is stressful and one thing I could really do with is a good pamper session.
Institut Esthederm products utilise Cellular Water, a key ingredient which optimises the cells’ energy environment and boosts activity. I’m not sure what that means really but I’m hazarding a guess that it basically means it optimises cell turnover which slows down as you age. Well since the ageing stick seems to have given me an almighty whack over the last year, I’m all for optimised energy environments!
If you, or your Mum are looking for a beautiful pamper package for Mother’s Day, give these products a whirl, I’m putting them on my list and crossing my fingers!
Eye Contour Lift Patches (10 x 3ml – £53). Ideal for those who are suffering with jet lag or stress, these promise to eradicate the effects of tiredness, revitalise the skin and plump and tone the eye area. Sign me up!
Intensive Hyaluronic Mask (75ml – £31.00).This mask smooths the skin and rehydrates. By now, there can’t be many beauty lovers who aren’t aware of the benefits of hyaluronic acid, but just in case, hyaluronic acid is a molecule that is naturally present in the skin and it is the skin’s water reserve. This mask rehydrates both the surface of the skin as well as the deeper layers.Find Institut Esthederm at Feel Unique and Look Fantastic.
It’s well documented on this blog that my skin is tricky to care for, but it seems pretty well controlled at the minute other than the occasional blemish and what seems to be the very sudden onset of ageing (it’s like I woke up one morning and was suddenly 10 years older), otherwise though, the dryness is mostly under control, blemishes are far less frequent and its not too bad, but it could be better. And that’s where Vichy Laboratoires Idealia Peeling comes in.
So what is it? Idealia Peeling is a water-light liquid applied to the skin at night, before your night cream that refines your pores, improves your skin texture and smooths fine lines in four weeks. The peeling action is gentle (4% Glycolic Acid and 5% Hepes), and promises an improvement to radiance, softness and brightness when used nightly for a month.
I’ve got all the blurb here but I’m not a big fan of typing out scientific facts I don’t really understand here, so lets stick to my opinions!
First up, application. Easy to apply, you just simply add to your cotton wool pad and apply to your clean skin, then apply your moisturiser and head to bed. I find I get a slight tingling when I apply but it’s comfortable. This isn’t an in depth review as I haven’t been using it long enough, but I wanted to give a heads up because for those of us with sensitive skin, this is brilliant. I’ve had no adverse effects so far, but when I wake in the morning my skin feels so smooth and soft. I’ve been using this for a few days now and I swear to god, I think my fine lines (not the deep ones – boo!) look a little less obvious. A little goes a really long way and I’m very optimistic that in a couple of weeks I’ll be glowing! I’m seriously impressed, as someone who breaks out at the drop of a product name, to use something as scary sounding as a peel and not have my skin freak out is a big deal!
You might be wondering what the record is in the background? Well that’s because Vichy have teamed up with DJ Becky Tong and as part of the new campaign Becky can be seen revealing her glowing skin from behind some of her top albums covers, and Skin by Flume is her favourite 🙂
Vichy Laboratoires Idealia Peeling is £30 for 100ml and is available from Boots nationwide as well as Boots.com

It’s that time of year when my skin starts to look a bit dull and sad. Central heating and colder weather brings with it dull skin, dry patches and if that wasn’t enough, my skin has decided to be a bit congested around my jaw line again, so it’s been time to bring out the big guns. Namely the Elemental Herbology Facial Glow Radiance Peel.
Facial Glow Radiance Peel is a beautiful mousse like cream, with exfoliating beads (jojoba NOT plastic!) that you massage into your skin, leave for four minutes and then remove. Skin texture is improved and cell turnover is increased. Active ingredients include apple serum and orange peel to help shed dead skins, manuka honey to soothe, lots of antioxidant ingredients as well as natural oils to hydrate.
This smells so delicious, it really smells like it’s made with lots of fruit (and it is!). Although this is chock full of exfoliating jojoba beads, it’s not at all irritating and it leaves my skin feeling so incredibly soft.
All my dry patches disappear and while I don’t think my skin is ever going to be glowing, after using this product and a dose of Elemental Herbology’s Calendula & Rose Damask Facial Moisturiser, (note to self, need a new moisturiser, I’ve run out!) my skin is the best I believe it can ever be. It doesn’t get rid of those little congestion bumps after one use, but by using once a week with the rest of my lovely products, it very quickly gets rid of them. I love this so much I would like to use it more often but there’s a downside, and that’s the price.
It’s a miracle product but still a bit out of my budget at £40 for 50ml. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth every single penny, its just a bit out of my budget. If I could I’d use this regularly for the rest of my life, but as it is, I’ll settle for a pot or two a year, in the winter. Another winning product from my favourite skincare brand. After years of blogging and trying loads of skincare brands, many of which I’ve loved, none have made my skin quite as happy as the Elemental Herbology range, definitely check them out if you have fussy skin like me!

Today I’ve got a beautiful new product to tell you about. As regular readers will know, my skin is a constant battleground, with blocked pores being standard along with a monthly hormonal break out that lasts most of the month. I’m using a pretty successful routine at the moment and am very careful which skincare samples I accept these days, looking only for those that won’t worsen the spots and help clear the blocked pores.
So I was pretty keen to try out the latest skin care product from Aromatherapy Associates. The Polishing Essential Enzyme Peel.
So what we have is a product that gently exfoliates without any harsh abrasives to aggravate. It contains Pineapple, Passion Flower and Grape fruit acids to break down dead skin cells along with Carrot Oil which is rich in Vitamin E and anti-oxidants.
All you need to do is apply a later to your face, leave on for 5-10 minutes before removing with a warm, damp cloth. Follow up with toner, treatments and moisturiser. Depending on the state of your skin you can use this once or twice a week.
It tingles a little when you use it, just to warn you, but it’s not painful or uncomfortable and unlike some peels it won’t leave you with a red face. It smells lovely and is a pleasure to use, personally I really enjoy the tingle.
The end results are cumulative, each time I use it I feel my skin looks a bit better and feels a bit softer. That’s absolutely not to suggest though, that after one use you won’t see any results, you will. Or at least I did. My skin was softly glowing and felt so soft. I feel that although the difference isn’t massively obvious with each use, I can see things improving, those little bumps on my skin are getting fewer and my skin really does feel so much softer.
This isn’t a cheap product at £39 for 50ml but it’s well worth the money. I am seeing similar results to those that I experienced with the Perricone Blue Plasma which is twice the price. So really that makes this product a bargain! 😉
You can pick up your product here and if you’re really in the mood for shopping then Aromatherapy Associates have now released all their Christmas Gifts which are always lovely, and I’d have to recommend treating yourself to the Festive Bath & Shower Collection!

For many years I’ve been avoiding Perricone MD products. I won’t go into why but lets just say it wasn’t based on experience and I’ve learned my lesson.
Blue Plasma is taking the beauty world by storm and I wanted to find out what was so amazing about it. Okay so to tell you briefly what it is, Blue Plasma is a a non-acidic daily peel. You use it daily after cleansing and toning but before serum and moisturiser, either morning or evening and it should have several effects. Firstly it peels dead skin cells, and please note, dead skin cells only, secondly it extracts surface debris, purifying as it goes and thirdly it hydrates. It does all of this without being abrasive or harsh. It’s suitable for ALL skin types, including sensitive and it was that fact that persuaded me to add it to my finely tuned regime, after all the effort I’ve put into clearing up my spots, last thing I want to do is get it back again.
Effects you should expect to see with regular use are resurfaced skin, luminosity, radiance and clarity, improved light reflectivity, softness and smoothness and plumpness of lines and wrinkles along with reduction of pore size.
I’m not going to go into all the active ingredients and get all sciency on you because I don’t understand them and my main focus for a product is whether it works or not but I will say that the bio-specific agent is Salmon Egg Enzyme, that is the ingredient responsible for peeling away dead skin cells only. Alaskan salmon fishermen have noted that their hands are softer and smoother after fishing…(Alaskan Journal of Commerce) so why not apply that to the facial skin. Clearly I don’t mean we should all be rubbing our faces with a nice fresh Salmon but you know, that nice Dr Perricone has made a lovely product so we don’t have to!
So, this leads me to my one and only negative point about this product. It does smell of fish. Yep, it does. It’s a light fishy scent and it’s one that doesn’t linger on the skin at all. Put it this way, when I use it at night, get into bed, and my husband comes in ten minutes later, he’s never once noticed it. And I did ask! Really you only have to endure the scent while you apply. Then its gone.
So that bit out of the way, this is a light, blue liquid, it goes into the skin quickly, leaves the skin immediately feeling soft but you can’t sense any product on the skin once applied, which is a good thing. I hate feeling I’m layering products onto my spot prone skin. As soon as this is on it’s absorbed or dried, whichever it does!
So given the state my skin has been in for the last year and the effort and upset theres been trying to fix it, I was anxious to add something new into my routine but I needn’t have worried, this stuff is amazing.
I’ve suffered no (extra) spots, no dryness, no irritation, no negative effects at all. Only good.
My skin appears more even, the pores seem less obvious, it looks so much better. I thought it was looking pretty good anyway, but this seems to have…refined things. I can’t explain it more than that, I know it’s not much of a review, but really my thoughts can be summed up that easily. My skin has improved considerably since I started using this (it’s been nearly two months now), but it’s improved in ways I didn’t realise were possible, and that’s what I mean by refined. When I do my evening routine and look in the mirror afterwards my skin looks smoother, with less imperfections and small pores. Lines, whilst still there, look less obvious and I am more even (hormonal acne aside of course).
Very impressed. It’s not a cheap product and of course some of you may find the smell unusuable, but I urge you to try it out, the scent lasts a moment, the effects last much much longer! It’s not a cheap product, it’s £78 for 59ml and a little goes a very long way indeed. I have been using nearly two months and the bottle (which comes with a pipette) has gone down by about half an inch, maybe just over that.
Available now from www.perriconemd.co.uk, www.johnlewis.com and leading department stores. Only problem for me is that now I’m over my Perricone fear there’s a whole new world opening up to me and it’s not a cheap world!
